Brazil makes official decision not to renew bilateral maritime transport agreements with Argentina and Uruguay

Agreement with Argentina expires on February 5, 2022 and with Uruguay ends on October 7

Through a presidential decree, released through the Official Gazette of Brazil on September 8, it was announced that: “it makes public the decision, by the Federal Republic of Brazil, not to renew the validity of the Agreement between the Republic Federal Republic of Brazil and the Oriental Republic of Uruguay on Maritime Transport, signed in Rivera, on June 12, 1975, and the Agreement on Maritime Transport between the Federative Republic of Brazil and the Argentine Republic, signed in Buenos Aires, on August 15 from 1985 “.

Thus, the agreement with Argentina expires on February 5, 2022 and that of Uruguay ends on October 7.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, September 8 by the Government of Brazil, the decision was adopted on December 9, 2020 and communicated to the Uruguayan and Argentine authorities on February 9, 2021 and February 3, 2021 respectively.
