Puerto de Arica reaffirms its commitment to Bolivian foreign trade by maintaining the Zero Rate for direct shipments

In the middle of negotiations with ASP-B

On several occasions, Puerto de Arica has reiterated its intention to reach an agreement with the ASP-B that allows it to favor the terminal’s customers, especially Bolivian importers that could be affected by an increase in charges.

In this sense, the statements issued by the Executive Manager of the ASP-B, Mr. Dante Justiniano, questioning the billing of public rates, surprised the Arica Port Company (EPA) and the Puerto Arica Terminal (TPA), considering that it is of a process duly notified to the ASP-B six months in advance, as established in the agreement signed by both parties in 2019.

TPA has indicated that since there is no current agreement between ASP-B and the Port of Arica, the services provided must be billed at public rates and that, despite this, the terminal’s commitment to Bolivian foreign trade has been reiterated, making a call to resume the consensual agreement that was reached on July 30 of this year and that for reasons unrelated to the Port of Arica could not be signed.

Gabriel Tumani, General Manager of TPA assured that customers are the priority and that “as a Port we reinforce our commitment to each of them, maintaining the Zero Rate for all direct cargo shipments, whether in Container or Loose Cargo format.” This and other measures, he indicates, are of direct benefit to Bolivian importers and are focused on reactivating the local economy and the Andean macro zone, in complex moments like this.
