They change the route of the Mayan Train in Campeche

The National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism ( Fonatur ) announced that they will make a change to the route of the Mayan Train in Campeche, which will prevent the relocation of almost 300 families and will save more than 2,000 million pesos.

Rogelio Jiménez Pons, director of the organization, specified that this modification will be carried out through a bypass that would be on the peripheral of this city at the height of the airport.

“We are no longer going to enter the city of Campeche, we are going to go to the periphery because of the problems they implied, technical problems and some groups that they did not want, which are minor, but we have made that decision for a practical matter,” he said. .

During the presentation d and Guidelines for Design and Urban Planning of the project, said a warrant will be built so that  ” the cheaper” to build an elevated viaduct , so they no longer carry out the relocation of nearly 300 families Which, he said, was not so burdensome either.

“Yes, it is a shame (to leave the city), the example of connected cities in Europe is that you can get off and the old Campeche station allowed you to get off and walk towards the walled area, but you will have to find internal transport to facilitate this, ”he expressed.

The road crosses Campeche since 1895, comes from the city of  Mérida , passes through the center of  Campeche , continues towards  Champotón  and from there to the city of  Escárcega , an important communication node that connects the peninsula with the rest of the country by land.

Similarly, Jiménez Pons commented that the construction of a station is also being analyzed with the new Mérida airport, as well as some adjustments in other facilities in that city.

Regarding the construction of the solar parks, he commented that there is a delay in this work due to the pandemic and they will restart until the middle of next year.

Regarding sections 6 that go from Tulum-Bacalar of 254 kilometers and 7 of Bacalar-Escárcega of 287 kilometers , which will be built by the Army, he commented that once they finish with the Felipe Ángeles International Airport, they will begin with the corresponding works .

The manager affirmed that this year there will be a general advance of between 27 and 30% of the Mayan Train.

“Last year was very difficult for us, there are still significant delays in supplies, there are delays from suppliers from France, Germany and Italy that have been for months due to the COVID issue, that is hitting us and other series of problems, but everything is recoverable and in December we hope to recover the growing curve ”, he added.

On the 12 Guidelines for Urban Design and Planning , which are divided into 3 axes and propose actions of environmental responsibility, social inclusion, as well as local economy.

Among them, highlighting the main habitats of southeastern Mexico and valuing their ecosystem services, promoting the construction of resilient localities in the face of natural phenomena , promoting access to adequate housing and consolidated urban land , reducing socio-spatial inequalities in the human settlements from a gender perspective, articulate the Mayan Train with sustainable mobility systems  and implement recovery mechanisms for increases in land value, among others.

“We celebrate the production of new inputs that will allow progress towards sustainable territorial development in southeast Mexico based on an approach that is shared prosperity,” said Elkin Velásquez, UN-Habitat regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean.

In the creation of the guidelines, 60 specialists from UN-Habitat, UNESCO, Fonatur, municipal authorities, specialists in architecture, urban planners, biologists, anthropologists, lawyers and sociologists collaborated.
